For a public speaking assignment in my communications class, I gave a live persuasive speech on Webex. I chose to speak about banning seed oils in the food supply. To make the speech more entertaining, I dressed up as an elderly woman and spoke to the audience as if they were “young folks,” sharing advice on living a long life by avoiding seed oils.

I used a slide presentation to enhance the speech, along with visual examples such as tallow and butter. Since I have never done acting or drama before, I was surprised and pleased with how the character turned out. The humor created some laughs, which helped keep the audience engaged and made the topic easier to remember.
