The Random Acts of Kindness project was a two week class assignment designed to encourage us to prioritize others over ourselves each day. I especially enjoyed this assignment because, before the COVID shutdowns, I regularly performed small acts of kindness for others. When the pandemic affected the country and the world, I shifted into a self-preservation mindset and stopped focusing on helping others.
Random acts of kindness strongly align with my love languages of acts of service and gift giving. This project allowed me to reconnect with the person I was before the pandemic. One example of my random acts of kindness took place at the Atlanta airport. During a layover, I noticed an elderly couple sitting a few tables away while I was eating. I decided to anonymously pay for their meal. When they left, I noticed that the woman needed a walker, which made the experience even more meaningful, as it felt good to help someone who appeared to be in need of kindness.
